We meet for 60 minutes each week. I review agreed materials in advance so we can use the hour for teaching, practice, and specific feedback.

Send me a question as the work unfolds. I check Slack each business day and reply by the next business day with guidance or a next step.

Three progress reviews with your sponsor

What we can work on together

Where would you like to grow?

Whether you’re planning a campaign, hiring a team member, or working through a budget, we can use your real work to build skills and confidence together.

Connect the words to the numbers.Build commercial judgment around budgets, performance, and the decisions the business needs to make.

A question you might bring

I need to explain what our marketing investment is doing and where we should put the next dollar.

We can work through your budget, read the P&L, examine how you track leads and return on investment, and practice presenting a recommendation. You learn to ask the second and third questions, recognize gaps in the evidence, and explain the tradeoffs.

Shape marketing around the buyer.Connect the customer journey, brand message, and campaign plan so the work has a clear purpose.

A question you might bring

We have plenty of marketing activity. I want a stronger plan behind it.

Bring a website plan, campaign, brand message, or social media calendar. We can trace the buyer’s journey, sharpen what you need to communicate, and decide how the pieces should work together. You practice writing better briefs, evaluating creative work, and choosing measures that fit the objective.

Understand the systems behind the work.Develop the technical confidence to ask better questions, evaluate tools, and use the data you have.

A question you might bring

I’m responsible for our website and reporting. I want to understand what I’m looking at and what to ask for.

We can examine GA4 reports, website management, SEO and answer engine optimization (AEO), or the way leads move into your CRM. We can also work through data quality, automation, and practical AI workflows. You develop the understanding to brief specialists, challenge assumptions, and judge whether a tool or change serves the business.

Build and lead a capable team.Grow your skills in recruiting, delegation, coaching, and the conversations that help people do good work.

A question you might bring

I’m growing the team, and I want to become a better manager as well as a better marketer.

We can define a role, prepare interview questions, and evaluate candidates against the work you need done. Bring your next one-to-one meeting, a delegation challenge, or feedback you need to give. We can practice coaching a team member, setting expectations with an agency, or presenting a recommendation to a group.

Turn competing priorities into a plan.Find the signal in the noise, organize the work, and make commitments you can follow through on.

A question you might bring

Everything feels urgent. I need to decide what matters, get organized, and know when to say no.

We can work through project planning, vendor relationships, or an event from its business case to execution and follow-up. For channel marketers, that can include market development funds (MDF), partner portals, and event sponsorships. You practice managing dependencies, making clear requests, and saying no with a reason and a recommendation.

THROUGHOUT THE RELATIONSHIP

Return to your goals. Look at what changed. Decide what to work on next.

You can bring the unfinished thinking.

A question you haven’t found the words for. A draft that needs work. A conversation you’re concerned about. You can work through it with me before taking it back to the business.

I’ll bring preparation and perspective.

I explain why I’m suggesting an approach, give specific feedback, and check how things went. You should be able to use the thinking again in your next plan, brief, or conversation.

The company supports your development.

We agree on what the company hears about development and progress. The participant is part of that agreement and those conversations.

The experience behind the mentorship

I’ve kept learning at every step.

I started in sales, carrying a quota. Six years later, I had the opportunity to move into marketing.

Over 27 years, that path has included leading field marketing across more than twenty states, marketing work across the U.S., the U.K., and Canada, and serving as a company’s first chief marketing and technology officer. I learned a great deal from the sales leaders, technology leaders, and agency teams I worked alongside.

Today I’m still hands-on with websites, marketing systems, and AI workflows. I bring those experiences into our conversations so we can connect the creative idea, the technology, the people, and the business case.

You should be able to ask the question you’d hesitate to ask in a meeting. I’ll share my thinking, explain the reasoning, and help you develop your own.

Before you commit

A few things
worth asking.

Will this suit the person on my team?

We start with a conversation about their role, goals, and interest in being mentored. The participant should want the relationship. A manager taking on their first budget and a VP developing a broader remit can both fit, with different development priorities. Your company gives them the time and opportunity to apply what they learn.

How will we know they’re making progress?

We agree on two or three development priorities and what progress would look like in their work. We return to those priorities, compare earlier and later work where useful, and discuss how their approach is changing. At the start, midpoint, and end, the participant and the company leader supporting the engagement join me to review agreed goals and progress.

What can they bring to a session?

A marketing plan, a brief, a campaign, a report, an agency recommendation, or a conversation they want to prepare for. We can also spend time learning a concept or developing an approach. We agree on focused material to review in advance. Larger reviews become part of our scheduled working time.

How does access between meetings work?

The participant has a dedicated Slack conversation with me. I check it each business day and respond by the next business day with useful guidance or a specific next step. When a question needs a longer discussion or substantial review, we agree on time to work through it. Planned time away and channel access are confirmed before we start.

What stays between Jim and the participant?

We agree together on what the company will hear about goals and progress. The participant joins company progress conversations and reviews written summaries for accuracy. Personal discussions are handled under our agreed confidentiality terms. Workspace access, retention, and any exceptions are explained at the outset.

What happens at the end of 90 days?

We review progress, what the participant wants to develop next, and whether continued mentorship would help. Further work is agreed together. The initial commitment is $9,000, paid in three monthly installments of $3,000. Continuation and scheduling terms are confirmed in writing.

Can I arrange mentorship for myself?

Yes. You can come directly or ask your company to support the engagement. We start with your role, interests, and what you want to develop. If your company is funding it, we agree together on the development priorities and how progress will be discussed.

Do I need to arrive with a project or a complete development plan?

You can bring a goal, a question, or an area you want to explore. We shape the development plan together. Current projects give us opportunities to apply what you learn, and we also make time for skills, ideas, and situations beyond a single assignment.
